Large, yellow butterfly-like flowers bloom in spring and are brighter than usual for the genus. They also sit higher above the foliage mound. Spiny green leaves are marbled with bronze and form a compact low clump. 'Frohnleiten' is a cross between Caucasian and Atlas Mountain species.
