A groundcover Astilbe, its soft, dark green leaves form a ground-hugging foliage mound around six inches high. Thick, stiff panicles of lilac-pink flowers bloom on 9–12 inch stems in early to midsummer. Its dwarf size and drought tolerance make ‘Pumila’ a good choice for shaded areas of rock gardens.
