Sneak Peek 2023

Peek into the future this winter with new varieties from Creek Hill Nursery, formally announced at the January MANTS trade show in Baltimore, Maryland. Available for shipping this spring, these crops can be ordered through your favorite broker, via the Creek Hill shopping cart, or directly by email or phone. Below are a few highlights from this year’s collection.

Polemonium ‘Golden Feathers’

Polmonium 'Golden Feathers'

A POLEMONIUM WITH BRIGHT YELLOW VARIEGATION: ‘Golden Feathers’ has several outstanding features. The most notable is the bright golden yellow color, especially very early in the season when it's cool. More green creeps in as the leaves age, but the center remains golden through the season. Under the hood are two other important features: stable variegation and sun performance. Yellow striping remains on the plant year after year, and it thrives in full sun so it’s especially successful in southern gardens. Summer heat tolerance is surprisingly good, even in Alabama.

Two New Echinaceas

Echinacea 'Cara Mia Yellow'

ECHINACEA 'CARA MIA YELLOW': A pom-style Echinacea, this plant has the renaissance breeding we like: longer lifespan, better winter performance, big flower count, strong stems, and stubborn disease resistance, all underneath the bright yellow color.

Echinacea Sunseekers 'Sweet Fuchsia'

ECHINACEA SUNSEEKERS 'SWEET FUCHSIA’: Dahlia-style Echinacea blossoms emerge with a double and sometimes triple set of ring petals surrounding the eye. It’s a new look for the flower, and 'Sweet Fuchsia' is one of the best illustrations.

Pycnanthemum muticum

Pycnanthemum muticum

SILVERY LEAVES ON A SHRUBBY POLLINATOR: Native to the eastern United States, this aromatic perennial has a beautiful silvery coat to the outer leaves, similar to herbal sage. When crushed, the leaves smell strongly of mint but the plant is not related to the true mints at all. Most important are the flowers at each branch tip. They wave about one to three feet high, loaded with pollen and nectar for pollinators.

Three New Sempervivums

Sempervivum Blushing Garnet

'Blushing Garnet'

Sempervivum Coconut Crystal

'Coconut Crystal'

Sempervivum Emerald Swirl

'Emerald Swirl'

THREE NEW COLORS: From the hardy Colorockz series of Sempervivum come three more classic colors for use in landscape, retail, or workshops. They are hardy hens 'n' chicks, down to zone 4. Two of them, 'Blushing Garnet' and 'Coconut Crystal', cycle through red and green phases between summer and winter, whereas 'Emerald Swirl' remains pretty much as it is year-round. All three will pup reliably, a very desirable feature.
