Sneak Peek 2017, the annual winter launch of new cultivars at Creek Hill Nursery, was formally announced at the MANTS trade show in Baltimore, MD on January 11th.
Attendees were able to review actual trays of growing product in 21 and 72 cells at the MANTS trade show. A special display, organized in a freestanding pinwheel, showcased most of our new introductions in their shipping form.
We think highly of Gentiana ‘Royal Stripes’, this year’s cover plant for the Sneak Peek program. Gentianas are not commonly grown so they are highly sought-after, and we have found a particularly beautiful bicolor version.
We have also seen a lot of interest in the Carex grasses for their well-behaved manner in the garden and good growing spirit in the shade—especially the variegated one.
This year we have introduced the EverColor® series of Carex, with eight different variations of banded color. It’s hard to pick out a favorite among the batch.
On a technical note, we have found a promising Coreopsis for people who have trouble getting their plants to bloom generously on the retail bench.
The Uptick series promises generous blooms in the first year and does not need firm vernalization to do the trick. The flowers are also big. The series has three bicolor combinations in it.
Finally, we want to draw your attention to the Delosperma series, Wheels of Wonder. This is a well-thought-out mix of six colors, all with vibrant blooms that mix and match easily.
Wheels of Wonder is the series to use if you want to build mixes or color combinations in your succulent collection.
