Over the past two years, Creek Hill Nursery has dramatically decreased our dependence on chemical pest controls by implementing a comprehensive Biological Control Program.
Developed by our grower, Laura Nafziger, the Creek Hill system uses weekly scouting, inspection and follow-up reports to proactively stop insect incursions before they become full-blown problems. Laura has combined preditory insects, mycorrhizal fungi, and bacterial controls with staff training and participation so all of our growers in all of our houses are involved.
Add to that physical barriers and compost teas made from worm castings, and we feel that we provide the best growing conditions possible for our crops.
Just as important, we have cut our dependence on chemical pest controls and chemical fertilizer by at least 75%, and we expect to reduce it even further.
Our biological controls also mean we grow a better, safer product for our workers and for yours.
